Majd Suleiman is a passion-driven businessman and entrepreneur. Suleiman is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Al Waseet International Company. Majd Suleiman's his main role in the company is being responsible for the company’s day-to-day operating activities, including revenue and sales growth, expense, cost and margin control. He directs company operations to meet budget and other financial goals and short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
Moreover, he establishes the performance goals, allocates resources, and assesses policies for senior management, demonstrates successful execution of business strategies for company products and services.
Majd Suleiman directs and participates in acquisition and growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans and develops, establishes, and direct execution of operating policies to support overall company policies and objectives.
Majd Suleiman attended Al Nour School where he earned his baccalaureate degree and then attended Damascus University where he graduated with a BS degree and a Masters degree in Economics in 1998.
In year 1998, Majd Suleiman was still a fresh graduate, when he came across his childhood friend with whom he decided to start a partnership. During that time the economy in Syria was at it starting point, Syria was opening up to the world.
The partnership started in Syria with United Group for Publishing, Marketing and Advertising, consisting of The Yellow Pages. It was the 1st directory in Syria licensed from YPPA. The yellow Pages met a huge success and hence with both Majd Suleiman and his partner's common interests, they decided to expand throughout the Arab world and go deep into the publishing and the media markets.
Their next big thing was Al Waseet in Lebanon along with Mobile Affiche both under new company Al Waseet International Company (AWI). And from there, they expanded their business all across the Arab world; from Jordan to Bahrain to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, KSA, and Egypt.
Parallel to Al Waseet, they developed a new social magazine in Lebanon called Layalina and expanded it across Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, KSA, and Egypt.
In 2003, they introduced in Lebanon a unique daily newspaper called Al Balad also under AWI.
Moreover, throughout the year of 2004 and 2009, AWI Company was able to win the licenses for many international titles as Top Gear BBC, Marie Claire France, Gala Germany, and Fortune NY.
Early 2010, the AWI board commissioned a plan to add an online department to AWI under the name of 7AWI. By May 2010, the online unit was established and the lunch of 7awi.com followed. By the end of 2012, 7awi lunched Layalina.com. They established an online board to oversee the overall digital strategy of AWI Company. The online unit’s focus will continue to be on media, transactional and e-commerce opportunities in the digital arena.
Majd Suleiman is a natural born entrepreneur and a visionary. He has a great passion for startups and the challenges that come with them.
