Dr. Brent Michael is a Family Practitioner at Personalized Private Practice (P3) Concierge Practice in Santa Monica, CA, where he focuses mainly on family practice with a preventative care mindset. He also specializes in preventative cardiac health in men and women’s health as well.
At his practice, Dr. Michael offers his patients a one-stop shop for many of their medical needs. They perform many services in-house such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), ultrasounds, chest X-rays, and bone density tests as well as their very in-depth physical exams. In addition, he adds a concierge medical aspect to his practice by conducting home visits for his patients.
As a registered Suboxone provider with the appropriate APA courses in Addiction Medicine under his belt, Dr. Brent Michael adds a unique extra component of care to his work. With his ability to prescribe Suboxone to patients who need it, he can help detox those suffering from substance abuse and addiction. Furthermore, because this treatment is regulated by the DEA, he has a special DEA number that makes him a Registered Suboxone Provider.
Dr. Michael also takes a holistic approach when it comes to focusing on his patients’ health, as he considers it vital to focus on the whole person in health care terms. For this reason, he takes the time to understand all possible factors that may be contributing to his patient’s problem and considers these when making any diagnosis. He can also access the best referral doctors should his patients require it.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Michael has also been on the staff of the prestigious St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica for 10 years. He is also a Department of Family Medicine Clinical Instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) David Geffen School of Medicine.
Throughout his professional past, Dr. Brent Michael has garnered many notable achievements in addition to his extensive education and medical practice history. All of this has combined to help make him the effective and experienced health care professional that he is today.
Medical Education and Training
He enrolled at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, in August of 1990 for his undergraduate education. He graduated from here four years later in May of 1994 with his Bachelor of Science degree, co-majoring in both biology and human and natural ecology.
From here, Dr. Michael pursued his medical school education at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL, starting in August of 1996. Here he earned a wide variety of honors and awards, including Honors in Pharmacology during his sophomore year and Honors in Surgery during his junior year. He was also awarded with Excellence in Family Practice in areas of Clinical Performance and Noncognitive Behaviors as well as Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology in areas of Noncognitive Behaviors, both during his junior year. Finally, he earned Excellence in Psychology in areas of Clinical Performance and Knowledge and Clinical Reasoning.
After graduating with his Medical Doctorate degree in May of 2000, Dr. Brent Michael proceeded directly into an internship in family medicine at the University of Miami in Miami, FL. Here he saw at least 40 patients a day, many of them suffering from HIV, AIDS, and other infectious diseases. His training here marked the beginning of his strong background in treating and dealing with disease.
After finishing his internship in November of 2001, he then moved from Miami, FL, to Los Angeles, CA. Here he joined the University of California Los Angeles at Santa Monica for his residency in family medicine in June of 2002. After he completed his residency, he stayed on with UCLA, and he continues to work there to this day as a faculty member in their David Geffen School of Medicine. In addition to holding a position as clinical instructor, he also has earned admitting privileges at the school and serves on their board of family medicine at the hospital.
Medical Practice Experience
In July of 2004, Dr. Brent Michael became affiliated with the St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA. This prestigious and private hospital has been nationally ranked in oncology care as well as in cardiovascular care. He has held this position with St. John’s for the past 10 years and is still there to this day.
At the same time that Dr. Michael joined St. John’s Hospital, he also joined Personalized Private Practice (P3) Concierge Practice. Here he began his general practice of preventative cardiology, helping to prevent major medical issues in his patients before they become a problem.
In addition, Brent has also completed many hours of continued medical education, or CME, in a wide variety of specific areas. These areas include women’s health, cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention, detection and treatment, addiction medicine, pain management, geriatric health care, hospice care, and ultrasonography, among others.
Affiliation and Licensure
Throughout his training and career, Dr. Michael has become affiliated with a variety of professional organizations. These include the Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA), the California Medical Association (CMA), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP). In addition, Dr. Brent Michael was elected to sit as a member on the American Board of Red Cross, where he has contributed in many different volunteering efforts, from fundraising to disaster preparedness.
Dr. Michael has also gained a number of licenses and certificates throughout his career. He has his California Department of Public Health Limited Bone Densitometry Supervisor and Operator Certificate as well as his CLIA Certificate of Waiver. He has also gained his USMLE licenses Steps 1 through 3 as well as his California State Medical License and an American Association of Psychiatry License for Detoxification.
Heading into the future, Dr. Brent Michael mostly plans to continue offering all of his current services in cardiovascular health and preventative health care to the patients and families who come to his practice. This means continuing with his general practice in men and women’s health as well as his extra services in the fields of disease prevention and treatment, pain management, cancer detection, addiction treatment, and more.
Going forward, Dr. Michael would also like to keep an even balance between his teaching responsibilities with UCLA and his growing expertise in the field of addiction. On the teaching side, this means continuing as the clinical instructor in the Department of Family Medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine as well as continuing to serve on their hospital’s board of family medicine. On the addiction side, this means making medical treatment more accessible to patients as a Suboxone provider. He would also like to see medical treatment in other areas become more patient accessible as well, as he sees that the health care industry is moving more and more toward concierge medicine.
Dr. Brent Michael also plans to continue being an active alumnus in both fundraising efforts and candidate interviewing for Emory University, the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and UCLA. He has recently been recognized by UCLA for his many contributions to teaching in the area of clinical medical skills such as when he helped supply and teach medical services to the indigent at a Santa Monica clinic called Common Ground. Vitals.com has also recently recognized him for his contribution of 10 years to family medicine, and as such, they will soon be sending him a plaque as a testament to this service.
