Peter Lee Coker is a currently a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, although he is a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 1960, Coker graduated from Allentown High School, and decided to dive headfirst into college. After looking at several colleges, he decided to attend the respected and widely known Dartmouth University. Located in Hanover, New Hampshire, Peter Lee Coker received extensive schooling and gained worldly experience. He decided to transfer during his undergraduate years, leaving the Ivy League school behind to attend a valued academic facility in the South, North Carolina State University. Making the big move to the South, Coker arrived in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1963. This was a huge stepping-stone in his career. As a current resident of Chapel Hill, Coker often recalls the opportunities and chances provided to him by the university he loved.
Peter Lee Coker graduated North Carolina State University in 1966 with a degree in the Bachelor of Arts program. During his time in Raleigh, he fell in love with the South and felt an overwhelming sense of support and encouragement. Coker decided to continue his education, continuing as a graduate student. While the university permitted him to taste different areas of scholarship, it also enabled him to discover a newfound acknowledgement and appreciation of sports. By 1967, Coker was appointed as the Freshman Basketball Coach for the university’s team. The basketball team continues to hold a special place in his heart today, and he values the contributions he was able to make while coaching.
Finally, in 1968, Peter Lee Coker received the ultimate honor in his education, as he graduated from North Carolina State University once again. However, this time he held a Master’s Degree in Economics. The university provided him with an abundant amount of financial knowledge and thorough understanding of the economic market. Because of this support and teaching, Coker was able to explore many areas of the business world.
Immediately following his graduation from the university, Peter Lee Coker began to look at job opportunities in the market, wasting no time. Shortly after, he received an impressive position at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation as the assistant vice president of the company pension fund. This respected company was the second largest steel producer in America and the largest ship builder. The business dates back to 1857. Needless to say, Coker was proud to work with such an accomplished and historical organization. With the company pension fund, Peter Lee Coker was tasked with managing over one billion dollars worth of stocks and bonds. He accumulated valuable experience with the notable company, added impressive content to his portfolio in terms of diversity and responsibility, and assisted in the investment of assets. He successfully accomplished this by not only meeting with the company’s Board of Trustees but also advising and offering inovative ideas.
In 1978, Peter Lee Coker decided to pursue a different route, and left the Bethlehem Steel Corporation to work as a managing director of a registered investment advisor for McGlinn Asset Management. This firm, located in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, is an independent investment consulting group. During his time at the firm, he was able to maximize his degree to its capacity, and he progressed quickly. Coker dealt with extremely high net-worth clients and was given the supervision and handling of Taft Hartley Funds, on top of profit sharing funds and corporate pension funds.
Shortly after, in 1979, Peter Lee Coker made a major advancement in his career, as he created and founded American Asset Management Company, Inc. This company was opened in New York City, New York. As the acting founder, Coker managed the company while still actively winding down his job as the managing director of McGlinn Asset Management.
Peter Lee Coker’s activity at the American Asset Management Company, Inc. allowed him to manage billions of dollars. More than half of those funds came from portfolios from the United States. The other funds were from various offshore stakeholders, including Sovereign Banks.
With two decades of experience under his belt, Peter Lee Coker made the tough decision to sell American Asset Management Company Inc. when he was ready to take his career to even higher places. He then became the managing director at Capital Investment Partners, a prestigious banking firm located in Raleigh, North Carolina.
