You didn't have enough enthusiasm. They're not interested? You didn't deliver the intro correctly, or your "nonverbal" cues made them disinterested. They didn't contribute? You did it wrong. No matter what went wrong, it's not the stranger, it's you. Case in point, they love to blame everything on you.
