Best place to work if you want to feel like trash Dear friend, When I worked at Grindr, I often wanted to slip a note to people coming in the door to interview. ?RUN,? the note would say. ?JUST TRUST ME.? Please accept this review in lieu of that note. Grindr is a workplace ruled by fear, lack of transparency, and homophobia. Job postings feature eloquent copy about a "family of lifestyle brands" with the "shared mission to connect LGBTQ people with the world around them." Don't let this altruistic statement fool you or make you feel like you?re applying for a job at a place that will make you feel good or valued. Because you won?t. Let?s break down this collection of ?lifestyle brands?, just for fun: INTO ? ?A digital magazine dedicated to queer perspectives?. NOPE, while this was a promising venture launched by the OG group in 2017, Kunlun pulled the plug on INTO in 2019. Countless reporters, writers (many who had fully relocated to LA to join the cause), creative producers and other talents were canned. Gaymoji ? ?A one of a kind sticker collection?. Nothing says LIFESTYLE BRAND like a forgotten sticker app that hasn?t been updated since 2018. The Halloween stickers that have been featured for 2 years are still hilarious tho. ?No Face No Chat? with a headless horseman? That's still gold. Grindr 4 Equality ? ?our social mission to promote justice, health, and safety for LGBTQ individuals around the globe.? If you think you?ll get some residual good-feels because of this arm of the company, know that it employs exactly two people. When the president of the company publicly states that marriage should be between a man and a woman, you?ve got to be a potato to not question the motives behind this ?philanthropic? effort. Why promote justice, safety and health in your own office when you can just tell people that you?re doing it worldwide? In the wake of a Chinese takeover and a CFIUS investigation regarding the breech of private user data that will result in the forced sale of the company back to a US entity (reportedly by June 2020), Grindr is a joke. Imagine a workplace full of innovative, smart, creative, collaborative people who are working together towards a stated goal. It?s a phenomenal place!! Now imagine all of those people being laid off or quitting because the current work environment is so toxic. What?s left? The people who have acquiesced to the new regime. The people who stay out of fear that they won?t get another job. The people who have families or green cards to worry about. The people who have been promoted simply because there was a hole, or who were promoted as motivation to stay on board, not because they actually have any qualifications to do that job. The people who speak Mandarin. IF YOU ACCEPT A JOB AT GRINDR, keep this in mind: HR is not your friend. They work to protect the company, not it?s employees. They will do the bidding of the company at any cost. They don?t care if you?re being discriminated against, if you?re having trouble with another employee, if another employee is making you feel uncomfortable, or if you have any legit concerns of that nature. They will do NOTHING to help. Those are not their concerns. They do love gossip, so expect your private HR conversations to become the latest grapevine fodder.
