Another Sad Story of a Toxic Small Business The owner is manipulative, incoherent, and volatile. If you can make sense of what she want, you may find some traction... but that can change within the hour or be quickly forgotten. This is no place for building a career, as traditional role responsibilities are thrown out the window in lieu of whatever whim the owner requests. You will find yourself constantly spinning wheels and performing damage control. It will often feels as though the business exists merely as a means for the owner to enjoy lavish vacations, hotels and travel?and at the end of the day, it's their business, not yours (and you will be reminded of this). You have no control and very little leverage, as their neuroses are too intertwined with the business as a whole. That being said, if you are good at putting up emotional boundaries and need a gig to keep afloat while you look for something real?this might work for you?but you're probably better off working for a company with a name that is more recognizable
