Gary Taffet is a co-owner and founder of the Woodbridge, New Jersey-based Reliance Insurance Group. Taffet founded the company as a private enterprise in 2006, with the goal of providing superior insurance services to private businesses and public government agencies alike. The company was subsequently purchased by Acrisure, an acclaimed insurance brokerage firm consistently ranked as one of the top brokerage firms in the United States. As a subsidiary of Acrisure, Reliance is able to offer “National Strength with Local Presence.”
As an expert in the insurance industry, Gary recently launched GarryTaffet.com to create informative articles about the insurance industry to educate audiences on policies.
Gary Taffet worked as Chief of Staff for the Governor from 2002 to 2003, but did not return to a role in government after leaving the position. Instead, Taffet developed the seed of the idea that would become Reliance Insurance Group, which opened its doors for business in 2006. His goal was to create an insurance company that would put the focus on personal client relationships and tailored individual solutions—rather than one that would take a “one size fits all approach.”
With this hands-on ethos in mind, Taffet called upon his expertise in the area of public sector group health plans to build, manage, and lead one of the fastest growing insurance companies in the United States. His role requires him to provide guidance across the firm, as well as manage individual client accounts related to his status as a licensed health insurance broker professional.
Far from being just a health insurance agency, though, Gary Taffet has built Reliance Insurance Group to be a comprehensive insurance brokerage firm. The company’s other specialties include property insurance, casualty insurance, and employee benefits. However, Reliance is capable of providing tailored solutions for virtually any insurance needs that government agencies or private companies might have.
Reliance Insurance Group also maintains an active philanthropic program, making between $50,000 and $100,000 of charitable donations each year. The company focuses its charitable efforts largely on organizations that help provide clinical care or expensive medical treatments for those who cannot afford the costs. Reliance’s primary charitable causes include North Hudson Community Action, Smile Train, and the Eric LeGrand Foundation.
Gary Taffet is an alumnus of the prestigious Rutgers University, where he earned an Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science. For graduate school, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning his MGA (Master’s in Government Administration). Following his schooling years, Taffet began a career in government, taking on roles at both the local and state government levels. He started in the New Jersey Legislature, assembling as part of the New Jersey General Assembly. He went on to serve as the Chief of Staff for his hometown of Woodbridge, New Jersey before taking a job as the Chief of Staff for then New Jersey Governor, Jim McGreevey.
In the coming years, Gary Taffet intends to continue building Reliance Insurance Group and expanding the company’s reputation as one of the best insurance advisors in the country for businesses and government agencies. Taffet’s aim with the company has always been to provide innovative solutions for clients and to earn their complete trust, and that mission will remain the same in the future.
In addition to continuing his role as the executive of Reliance Insurance Group, Gary Taffet hopes to spend more time with his family and pursue his other interests and hobbies. On top of his work with Reliance, Taffet has been the coach of a high-level competitive soccer team for over a decade. The team—the New Jersey East Brunswick Dynamo—is geared toward boys in the U14 (under 14) age bracket. During the season, the team maintains a rigorous training schedule and travels frequently for matches. Taffet describes his passion for coaching the team as similar to his dedication to his business.
