Getting a Start in Social Work
She got her start in the field when she attended Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania. It was here that she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social work with high distinction. But she was not done yet. She went on to obtain her master of social work with a mental health concentration from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii. Her interest in the field of mental health continued to grow from there.

While she was pursuing her master’s degree, she worked as a mental health specialist and case manager at Kahi Mohala Psychiatric Hospital in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. As part of a multi-disciplinary team for the extended psychiatric treatment program for adolescents, she gained hands-on experience in the field. She helped to ensure patient safety, provide individual counseling, and manage patient cases.

Upon graduation she continued her work in mental health. As a social worker for Monarch House Group Home of Child and Family Service in Honolulu, she provided a wide range of services. The program was centered on community-based residential treatment, something that would serve her well in future positions. Her responsibilities included psychosocial assessments; treatment plans; case management; and individual, group, and family therapy.
Her hard work and strong abilities paid off and she was promoted to group homes program director after just two years. In this new position she served in a more administrative role. She was responsible for overseeing the operation of six group homes and supervising both clinical and administrative aspects of the program. In addition she also wrote grants and served on State coalitions to have her voice heard.

Clinical Director

The organization featured several facilities and programs that she was responsible for overseeing. They included two emergency shelters, two residential treatment programs, a substance abuse prevention program, and intensive home-based family services. She had a hand in the development, implementation, and supervision of the clinical services that were offered, giving her more in-depth knowledge and skills. Dr. Freedle was also active in policy and program development initiatives at the local, state, and national level. In addition, she conducted training and professional development for staff. After two years she transitioned to clinical director of Youth Panorama, Inc., where she held similar responsibilities.

● Outpatient psychotherapy
● Psychosocial assessments
● EAP services
● Adoption counseling
