Crystal River Capital

Crystal River Capital has no crystal ball, but it hopes its investment decisions prove to be far-sighted. The real estate investment trust (REIT) manages a portfolio worth some $4 billion consisting primarily of residential mortgage-backed securities; it also invests in commercial mortgage-backed securities, whole mortgage loans, and entities that own real estate, as well as diversified asset-backed securities and alternative assets. Formed in 2005, the company is managed by Hyperion Brookfield Asset Management, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Brookfield Asset Management.
