What the NAACP is for African-Americans, The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is for Hispanic-Americans. A not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization, NCLR promotes and protects the rights of "la raza" or "the race" to experience equal rights, education, gainful employment, affordable housing, and adequate health care in America. NCLR comprises a network of some 300 community-based organizations that provide services such as after-school programs, charter schools, community health and activities centers, English language classes, homeownership counseling, and job training. Headquartered in Washington, DC, NCLR is a voice on Capitol Hill, helping shape policies that promote economic and social equality.
