CRCD was established in 2005 by community leaders who were determined to reverse the negative effects that decades of economic disinvestment, high rates of poverty, unemployment, and low rates of educational attainment were having on young people in South LA. CRCD believes that a holistic approach is required to improve the quality of life for all and has a long-term commitment to improving the quality of life in South LA. We have a respect for local history and a collaborative approach to supporting the community?s vision for the future. CRCD?s diverse partners include young people, residents, businesses, community-based organizations, educational institutions, national organizations, local government, the justice and foster care systems, foundations, corporations, donors, and more. In partnership with others who share our mission, CRCD is changing lives and building neighborhoods responsibly. Mission: Our mission is to better sustain, coordinate and improve local planning, development and community services that address the needs of low-income and working-class residents and small businesses in South Los Angeles. Our vision is to join with others in the community to create an environment where the basic needs of youth are met; where youth can develop positive social skills, become more aware of their neighborhood's needs and demonstrate genuine civic pride by actively contributing to the empowerment of their community.
