Founded in 1985 by CEO Dr. Donna Housman (also a clinical psychologist and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine), Beginnings School welcomes children from 3 months to 6 years old. The school offers a unique ECSEL (Emotional Cognitive Social Early Learning) curriculum that enhances emotional and cognitive development through play, relationships, and hands-on, in-the-moment learning. The school?s curriculum is based on rigorous scientific research to help children develop the capacity to constructively express, effectively deal with, and successfully manage inevitable frustrations, distresses and anxieties ? abilities that prepare children for optimal learning and lifelong success. Training and professional development for the school?s educators is extensive. The NAEYC-accredited school also has an impressive facility. It includes many light classrooms, a large playground, wildlife sanctuary, children?s garden, and spacious gross motor room. Mission: Beginnings School works to instill a love of learning in each child. We focus on the emotional foundations of learning, basing our program on the best practices and principles in early childhood education, child development, and research. Through our unique ECSEL (Emotional Cognitive Social Early Learning) curriculum, we continually strive to enhance children?s emotional and cognitive development through play, relationships, and hands-on in-the-moment learning.
