First Investors Financial Services originates subprime auto loans (made to people with blemished or nonexistent credit) indirectly through auto dealers or directly to consumers. The dealer indirect program consists of loans originated through hundreds of franchised auto dealers in nearly 30 states. First Investors Financial Services drums up business for its direct lending through direct mail campaigns in about 15 states. The company also purchases portfolios of auto loans from other lenders. It has some 40,000 customers and $600 million in receivables. Texas is its largest market.
