The San Diego State University Research Foundation (SDSU Research Foundation) is pure gold to the Aztecs of San Diego State University. The not-for-profit foundation funds educational, research, and community service programs at the school. SDSU Research Foundation currently administers some 1,000 active grants and contracts with revenues of about $134 million in 2008. Support from federal agencies, including Health and Human Services, accounts for nearly half of the research grants awarded. Established in 1943, the organization added "Research" to its name in 2004 to help distinguish itself from The Campanile Foundation, the university's philanthropic foundation.
