Founded in 1959, Cal State East Bay, formerly Cal State Hayward, has some 14,750 students at its three campuses on the east side of San Francisco Bay. Students can obtain bachelor's degrees in 52 fields of study including liberal arts, science, and business. The main campus is located in the East Bay foothills; a second campus is in nearby Concord, east of Berkeley. The Professional Development and Conference Center, located in downtown Oakland, offers continuing-education programs. The university also operates an Internet-based program awarding certificates as well as master's degrees in about 40 subjects.
