One of 35 colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia, it enrolls more than 17,000 students, most of which hail from Georgia. Georgia Southern has graduate centers in Augusta, Brunswick, Dublin, and Savannah; it also offers distance learning programs. Founded as a district agricultural school in 1906, the institution became a university in 1990.
