The state of Florida has affection for at least one type of Hurricane. The University of Miami (UM), whose Hurricane sports teams are legendary competitors on the playing field, has been instructing students in the Sunshine State since 1925. UM enrolls more than 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students annually. Academic offerings include about 275 undergraduate, graduate, and professional areas of study. The school has five campuses throughout south Florida including its main campus in Coral Gables and a medical campus in Miami. While it boasts highly rated academic programs (with a student-teacher ratio of 11:1), UM may be best known for its many national championships in men's and women's sports.
