Infusions of cash from Warburg Pincus keep companies in the pink (and in the black). The partner-owned firm, which has stakes in more than 100 companies worldwide, participates in venture capital investments, growth capital deals, leveraged buyouts, and recapitalizations. An active investor, the company usually holds its stakes for five to seven years. It focuses on a range of industries, with prominent holdings in such sectors as health care, communications, energy, media, technology, financial services, and consumer goods. Formed in 1966 by the late Lionel Pincus, Warburg Pincus helped pioneer the concept of raising investment capital from financial institutions rather than wealthy families.
