Kentucky knows bluegrass and basketball. Perennial basketball powerhouse The University of Kentucky (UK) has an enrollment of approximately 27,000 in about 20 colleges and schools. It offers more than 100 undergraduate majors and more than 100 graduate degree programs, including master's, doctoral, first professional, and post-doctoral programs. It confers some 5,500 degrees annually and has about 2,000 faculty members. UK also operates the Chandler Hospital. A public university and research institution, the school was founded in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of the Kentucky University.
