The state's leading research institution, North Dakota State University (NDSU) has an enrollment of more than 14,000 students. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate degree programs, some 60 master's degree programs, and more than 40 doctoral and professional programs. Historically, NDSU's strengths have been agriculture and the applied sciences, but the school also offers courses of study in business, liberal arts, engineering, architecture, mathematics, and education. NDSU is a land-grant college; its extension service offers education and outreach programs throughout North Dakota in agriculture, health and nutrition, and community leadership. NDSU was established in 1890.
