California State University, Fresno -- commonly known as Fresno State -- is one of 23 member institutions in the California State University System, one of the largest higher education systems in the world. It enrolls more than 22,000 students, who pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in dozens of subject areas. It has more than 1,200 faculty members. The university consists of nine academic schools and divisions: agricultural sciences and technology, arts and humanities, business, education and human development, engineering, health and human services, science and math, social sciences, and global and continuing education. Fresno State was founded in 1911 as Fresno State Normal School.
