Smith Dairy Products is one smooth dairy operator. The company makes and distributes dairy products and beverages, marketed mainly under its Ruggles (ice cream), SMITH'S (fluid milk, ice cream, cottage cheese, and sour cream) brands. Smith Dairy also offers teas, juices, punches, and dips. Its customers include food retailers and foodservice businesses in Indiana and Ohio. Founded in 1909 by John and Peter Schmid, the family-owned and -operated dairy is known for its bright yellow plastic milk jugs, which it claims block out light rays which break down milk's vitamins and minerals and affect its flavor. The company also owns Wayne Dairy in Richmond, Indiana, and Pacific Valley Dairy in Pacific, Missouri.
