A unit of book distribution giant Ingram Industries, Lightning Source provides digital publishing support (including digital rights management and secure e-book delivery) and print-on-demand services. The company's print-on-demand library has more than 100,000 titles, including e-books, available to order. Lightning Source also has printed more than 50 million books. The company works with more than 4,500 publishing partners, such as Simon & Schuster and Zondervan, who use the print-on-demand service to reduce costs associated with printing large batches of slow-moving titles. It operates overseas through subsidiary Lightning Source UK. The company was founded in 1997.
