The Houston Housing Authority (HHA) is a public housing agency and unit of government, affiliated and performing essential governmental functions of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The agency operates and manages its housing developments to provide decent, safe, sanitary and affordable housing to low income, elderly, and disabled individuals and families, and also maintains contractual arrangements with HUD to manage and operate programs funded with development grants, federal monies, and rental income. The HHA currently employs approximately 200 regular full time staff, owns and manages over 3,500 units of low rent public housing and 1,658 affordable multifamily units. Additionally, HHA administers rental assistance for more than 17,000 privately owned rental units through the Housing Choice Voucher Program. HHA?s total operating and development budget for the fiscal year 2013 was approximately $172 million. Mission:?To improve lives by providing quality, affordable housing options and promoting education and economic self-sufficiency. The Houston Housing Authority provides affordable homes and services to more than 58,000 low-income Houstonians, including over 17,000 families housed via the Housing Choice Voucher Program and another 5,700 living in 25 public housing and tax credit developments citywide. The HHA also administers the nation's 3rd largest voucher program exclusively serving homeless veterans.
