When companies turn trees into paper, they use bleach to make the wood white. That's where Canexus comes in. The chemical manufacturing and handling company produces sodium chlorate and chlor-alkali used as bleaching agents by the pulp and paper industries as well as water treatment companies. It has four plants in Canada and two in Brazil, including the world's largest sodium chlorate plant (in Manitoba). The company's terminal operations, with two 800,000 gallon underground storage tanks, offer loading and storage services to Alberta's active oil and gas industry. Formed in 2005 as an income trust, Canexus converted to a publicly traded corporation in 2011 after Canada changed its tax laws.
