The company's core MAPS software product is a manpower-planning application with modules for managing long-term assignments, short-term and daily staff assignments, and employee access to buildings, ships, and other locations. It targets its products to the maritime, construction, health care, and defense industries; customers have included Princess Cruises, NHS, the British Army, and the Royal Australian Navy. The company obtains about 65% of its revenue from the UK. Founded in 1991 as Manpower Software, Allocate Software changed its name in 2009 to amend a trade name dispute with the unaffiliated US employment agency Manpower Inc.
