The Detroit News is a daily news publication covering the state of Michigan. Along with The Detroit Free Press (owned by Gannett), The Detroit News is one of Detroit's two major daily newspapers. (The two papers' business operations are managed by the Detroit Media Partnership, which oversees business, marketing, and manufacturing operations while the newspapers keep separate editorial staffs.) The Detroit News boasts a daily circulation of about 180,000, and also operates on the Web through Detroit News Online. The paper was founded in 1873 and was acquired by Gannett in 1986. It was sold to MediaNews Group in 2005.
