Spacenet comes from Israel, not outer space. The US arm of Israeli satellite network provider Gilat provides high-speed broadband Internet access via satellite to corporate customers across the US, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. (Corporations use satellite Internet to speed up retail transactions and reduce network downtime). Spacenet also offers on-demand satellite connectivity, rural telephone, voice, and videoconferencing services. Residential customers are served through its StarBand brand, which is also offered in several Caribbean and Central American countries. Subsidiary Spacenet Integrated Government Solutions (SIGS) caters to federal agencies such as the Depts. of Defense and Homeland Security.
