Memry's products are designed to have a long memory. The company makes specialized metal and plastic products that are used primarily in medical devices. The company develops, manufactures, and sells components (wire, tubing) and sub-assemblies made from nitinol, a nickel-and-titanium-based "shape memory alloy" with more than 10 times the elasticity of normal metals. Nitinol is used in surgical instruments such as peripheral vascular and non-vascular stents, guidewires, and catheters. Medical applications account for more than 90% of Memry's sales. In 2008, Italian scientific equipment manufacturer SAES Getters bought the company for $78 million, making Memry a wholly-owned subsidiary.
