Intrepid Museum Foundation operates New York's Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Featuring the 900-foot-long aircraft carrier USS Intrepid and several military airplanes, the museum has drawn more than 10 million visitors since its opening in 1982 and attracts some 750,000 people each year. The USS Intrepid, which was built in 1943 and retired in 1974, is docked nearby on the Hudson River at Pier 86. Museum attendees also can tour the inside of the world's fastest commercial airplane, Concorde. The museum foundation also operates small rides, such as the Virtual Flight Zone, which puts civilians in the pilot's seat.
