The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching is an independent policy and research center, whose primary activities have resulted in published reports on every level of education. Influential Foundation achievements include publication of the Flexner Report on medical education, creation of the Carnegie Unit, founding the Educational Testing Service, establishment of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, and introduction of ideas around the scholarship of teaching and learning. The Foundation also developed the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA) and was a leader in the effort to provide federal aid for higher education, including Pell Grants, which assist low- and middle-income students. Mission:?The Carnegie Foundation is committed to developing networks of ideas, individuals, and institutions to advance teaching and learning. We join together scholars, practitioners, and designers in new ways to solve problems of educational practice. Toward this end, we work to integrate the discipline of improvement science into education with the goal of building the field?s capacity to improve.
